Southern Accent celebrates 30 years – with a party & new cookbook
Last Thursday, Southern Accent marked the momentous occasion of their 30th anniversary with a wonderful party and launch of a commemorative cookbook.
Founder Frances Wood and chef and co-owner Thessavan (Thess) Maniceavasakan mingled and signed copies of their limited-edition The Southern Accent Cookbook: Our Cajun, Creole & Soul Experience.
The book is a wonderful journey of their adventure - part biography, part cookbook. You’ll read about how Frances, an Irish woman, got interested in Louisiana cuisine, as well as how to make such legendary dishes as their Bayou Chicken and Butter Pecan Pie.
Host Richard Crouse (CTV Canada AM, NewsTalk 1010) entertained the crowd with his immense warmth and wit. Did you know Richard was a waiter at the restaurant back in the day? Before he was famous!
The night was filled with insanely addictive Bourbon Sours, great nibbles (including a massive jambalaya cooked right on the patio!) psychic readings, and the joyous music of New Orleans.
Frances and Thess brought Louisiana fun and fare to the city long before anyone else and they continue to keep the New Orleans party going, 30 years and counting!
If you’ve never been, you should go. And if you’ve been, you should go back. Southern Accent is more than just a great meal – it’s an experience you won’t soon forget.
p.s. The cookbook is selling out quickly, so get down to the restaurant for your copy. And a bourbon sour, or three.
