The Dinner Party: Feswick’s Feminist Fête
This Sunday, October 29, there’s going to be a dinner party like no other at the Drake Commissary, the newest Drake Property.
The Drake’s curator, Mia Nielsen, and The Drake Hotel’s executive chef, Alexandra Feswick, have created The Dinner Party, “a feminist celebration at the intersection of art and food.”
Inspired by an iconic work
Feswick has thrown similar bashes in the past (previously in collaboration with Not Your Average Party) at different venues, but this year’s is the biggest yet. And this one was inspired by “The Dinner Party” by Judy Chicago, an iconic feminist work from the ’70s. The triangular table features 39 place settings, commemorating important women from history, complete with embroidered runners, gold chalices, utensils and painted porcelain plates. Look down – you’ll see the names of 999 more women in gold, inscribed on a white tile floor.
The immersive culinary and cultural experience will take place over seven courses, prepared by a team of top Toronto female chefs:

Art installations throughout the meal will feature Toronto-based artists Ness Lee, Sandra Brewster and Diane Borsato. Guests will receive a piece by Jennifer Murphy to take home.

The Dinner Party, a not-to-be-missed culinary and cultural event, will take place Sunday, October 29 at The Drake Commissary (128 Sterling Rd.) with two seatings: 5 pm and 9 pm. Tickets are $150 (+ tax and gratuity), with all gratuities going to Indigenous Women's Fund of Canada and Sistering.
