For authentic Italian fare in a modern setting, head to Bucatini Restaurant & Wine Bar in Brampton.

Owner Vince Foggetti, born in Puglia, cooked for pleasure but hadn’t worked in the industry when he took over Bucatini in June 2015. He’d had a very successful commercial painting business for 30 years, but he jumped right in.

“I was always into food. I always enjoyed cooking. It was a big switch, but I always had the passion,” he says.

Bucatini offers a wide variety of dishes and daily features for lunch and dinner. Select from antipastos, salads, pastas and risottos, pizzas, entrées and house-made desserts.

“You don’t have to go to Italy,” he says. “We keep it as traditional as possible. And everything’s done fresh, including certain pastas – gnocchi, lasagna. I go shopping myself every Tuesday.”

Many dishes are from his mother’s recipes, while some are of his own creation, such as Escargot Bucatini ($16) and Fettucini alla Vincenzo ($28) with shrimp and peppers in a brandy tarragon cream sauce.

Select classics executed by Red Seal certified chef Micheal and J.P. in the kitchen such as Arancini ($11)Bucatini Amatriciana ($18)Risotto ai Funghi ($23)Veal Marsala ($28), and three types of Parmigiana  Veal ($25), Chicken ($24) and Eggplant ($19)Twelve thin crust 11” personal size pizzas featuring house-made dough ($16-$24) are available as well.

Looking for vegetarian options? There’s a whole separate menu excluding any meat dishes.

The vast selection continues with feature desserts and cocktails as well as special dishes served on weekends including appetizer, entrée, pasta and fish.

Benvenuto

Foggetti has created a setting that feels like home. He can often be found serving tables and tries to walk every group to the door after their meal.

Then there’s the room itself – featuring cozy booths, warm wood and a variety of seating areas. There are homey touches, including a large portrait of his father Vito.

The setting is further enhanced with dinner, drinks and live jazz music, courtesy of the Frank Adriano Trio, as well as events such as a recent “All You Can Eat Porchetta” evening. Upcoming: New Year’s Eve party featuring a 4 course set menu, drinks and live music, so get on your dancing shoes.

Bucatini’s food is simple, but focused, with quality ingredients and well executed. And Foggetti’s attention to details, such as warmed plates, cutlery replaced between courses and the simple act of walking guests to the door, do not go unnoticed.

One visit and you’ll be back.
