The Dish - Sunday Roast Dinner

We are fortunate to live in a city with such wide and varied dining options.

That said, it can be exceedingly difficult to track down dishes outside of oysters, burgers, and poutine without spending a significant time online. And good luck trying to find deals beyond the usual pint and wing specials at your local.

That where’s The Dish comes in: I scour the city for your favourite dishes and deals. Because one cannot live on pizza and beer alone.  (Okay one can, but maybe one shouldn’t).

This week: it’s all about Sunday Roast Dinner.

——

Who doesn’t love the idea of a homey roast for dinner?

But maybe spending your day off in the kitchen isn’t #weekendgoals after all. Don’t fret. A surprising amount of restos willing to do all the heavy lifting.

Take a look:

The Aviary Brewpub

484 Front St. E.

Canary District’s newest arrival offers Sunday Roast Dinner ($MP), “traditional style” with mash, veg, gravy and Yorkshire pudding after 5pm.

Banknote Bar

663 King St. W.

Sunday Funday, indeed. Tuck into Prime Rib Dinner ($25) with mashed potatoes and veggies, from 5pm on.

Batch

75 Victoria St.

You’ve got all weekend to enjoy Country Roast Dinner ($25) at the design-forward gastropub and brewery. Saturdays and Sundays starting at noon, dig into a tender roast (selection changes weekly), with mashed potatoes, local root veg, and Yorkshire pudding.

Bonus: Pair with a pint on Cream Ale for just $5.

The Blake House

449 Jarvis St.

First, there’s the appeal of your surroundings: Rich history (a restored heritage building), architecture (brought you by famed architects Knox & Elliot), and uniqueness (TBH is one of the last heritage structures in Toronto boasting a mix of 19th century Victorian and Second Empire architecture).

Then there’s the comfort food. Sunday Roast ($22) begins at 5pm, featuring Prime Rib, accompanied by Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, and seasonal vegetables.

 Win-win.

The Caledonian

856 College St.

Full Sunday Roast ($19) at the Scottish public house and whisky bar is a doozy - New York strip loin with Yorkies, mash, sprouts, and get ready for it - whisky gravy! Supper’s available as of 6pm, but sells out quickly. Pro tip: Dine early.

House on Parliament

454 Parliament St.

Cabbagetown’s long-standing haunt serves up Sunday Prime Rib Roast ($21) starting at 5pm. This awesome repast includes Yorkshire pudding, mash, veggies, jus and dessert. And not just any dessert, but bread pudding. Pro tip: Do as early birds do, or at least arrive well before 9pm, when it’s sure to be sold out.

Le Petit Déjeuner

191 King St. E.

Did you know that the Belgian-Canadian brunch destination also does dinner? Their Family Style Sunday Roast ($30) is made with local, seasonal ingredients.

The pre-fixe menu offers a few options, in addition to beer gravy, bacon parmesan waffles, and a dessert worth saving room for.

Menu

Homemade Soup or Mixed Green Salad with sliced apples, tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette

Roast of Beef and Pork with oven roast potatoes, dark Belgian beer gravy, and savoury bacon parmesan waffles

Calvados poached apples, chocolate, and strawberries rolled in a paper-thin crepe.

The Roy

894 Queen St. E.

Leslieville’s popular watering hole offers a classic Prime Rib ($22.95) every Sunday with Yorkshire pudding, gravy, mash, and veg.
