The Dish – Steak

We are fortunate to live in a city with such wide and varied dining options. 

That said, it can be exceedingly difficult to track down dishes outside of oysters, burgers, and poutine without spending a significant time online. And good luck trying to find deals beyond the usual pint and wing specials at your local.

That where’s The Dish comes in: I scour the city for your favourite dishes and deals. Because one cannot live on pizza and beer alone.  (Okay one can, but maybe one shouldn’t).   

This week: it’s all about Steak.

Steak isn’t something you have to save up for or wait for a special occasion, thanks to great specials happening around the city.  

And as it turns out, you don’t have to have for the weekend either.

Brooklyn Tavern
1097 Queen St. E. 

Leslieville’s popular haunt offers Steak ($22) served with fries, BT Mayo, and slaw, every Tuesday. 

Cactus Club Cafe

Prefer to get your big meal in before 5pm? Or maybe you’re more of a late-night grazer. Either way, this deal’s for you.

Hang with the Bay St. crowd in The Financial District’s popular refuge with Steak Frites ($21) daily 2-5pm and Mondays to Thursdays 10pm ‘til close.  

Since select cocktails, wine and beer are also on deep discount during these hours ($5-$15), happy hour has arrived whether it’s pre-dinner hours or after dark.  

p.s. Their Negroni ($8) is on point. 
p.p.s. The Sherway location also offers Steak Frites on spesh ($20), though days and times are slightly different.

Jules Bistro

You don’t have to drop serious dough for Côte de Bœuf after all.

While you’re welcome to spend regular price ($70 for two) during the rest of the week, on Tuesdays it’s just $35 for a 24oz ribeye bone-in dinner for two, complete with salad and frites.

 Tres bien, merci.

King Taps

Steak Frites ($20) is just one of the dishes available on “The Real Deals” menu Monday-Saturday 2-5pm, Daily 9pm-close, and all day Sunday.

Combined with drink specials, you’ve got yourself one helluva good excuse to leave the house this winter.

Le Baratin
1600 Dundas St. W.

Hump day is easier to get through when you know you’ve got Steak Frites ($20) waiting for you every Wednesday night.

Nuit Social
1168 Queen St. W.

Head to this spot on Queen between Dovercourt and Dufferin Thursday nights, where steak and a glass of wine is just 20 bucks.

The Old Nick
123 Danforth Ave.

The long-standing pub on the Danforth is known for its live music, brunch, and patio, but did you know you can sink your teeth into steak here too? For under $12?

On Tuesdays, grab a Steak Sandwich for $10.99. Saturdays, a Steak & Caesar Salad is just $11.99. 

Ravi Soups

Warning: The Flank Steak Wrap Combo ($14.49) available every day of the week, is such a hearty meal, you won’t be requiring your usual snacks to tide you over.

A thick wrap stuffed with steak, roasted yams, baby spinach, caramelized onions, mushrooms, edamame, brie, and chipotle mayo is a solid repast on its own.

Paired with your choice of soup (Curried Apricot & Red Lentil, Butternut Squash, Beef Miso, Ravi Stew, Porcini Mushroom Wild Rice Bisque, Corn Chowder, Chicken Hot Pot Broth) or slaw, don’t be surprised if you pass on dessert. 

Tulip Steakhouse

If you’re looking for comfort food classics, it doesn’t get much better than this east end steakhouse, established in 1929.

Enjoy Chopped Sirloin of Beef ($12.95) with Spanish sauce or pan gravy, for lunch and dinner every Saturday and Sunday. 

Vi Pei Bistro - Bluffs
3101 Kingston Rd.

 Scarborough stalwart Vi Pei has a Thursday night steak feature ($21.45) you’ll want to get in on: 10oz aged premium AAA striploin steak served with a glass of wine or beer.
